The aesthetic qualities of Raptor immediately stood out to me. I like how you can see the aircraft banking as it moves laterally. Completing levels earns the player money that can be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades for their aircraft.

What sets a PC shmup, like Raptor, apart from a traditional arcade-style shmup is its persistent upgrade system. The game is divided into three sectors, with each being comprised of 9 levels (i.e. Raptor Call of the Shadows is a vertically scrolling shmup that was originally released as shareware on MS-DOS in 1994.

CheatsĮnter these codes while in the main menu to unlock new ships. The Zica Supercharger, Dual Shot Cannon, and Plasma Storm are all solid possibilities for sidekicks. When the Flamethrowers become available, this may be improved. They only have five bullets apiece, yet they can knock down the end-of-level monsters in a matter of seconds.
I prefer to employ the Mega Missiles on the left and right in the first and second episodes, at least. The Heavy Missile Launcher or Guided Micro Bombs are two further options for rear weapons. During a level, you may alter the mode to make the Sonic Wave shoot forwards as well. Sonic Wave is an excellent rear-guard weapon. Front-gun choices include the Zica Laser, Laser, and Hyper Pulse. The weapon loadout is primarily a matter of taste. Your shields will cease recharging if you run out of energy during a level. Look for improved shielding and generators as well. New ones will surface from time to time, so visit the store after each level to see what’s new. Setup of the ShipĪim to purchase the most expensive ship you can.
